Education Signature Program coverage in JHARKHAND

​​The Education Signature Program was replicated in 2016 in Noamundi and Jagannathpur, two blocks of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. The Program was funded by The Hans Foundation (via TSRDS) and Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) for its first three years. Subsequently, it is entirely funded by TSF. In December 2021, the Program expanded to cover all 18 blocks of West Singhbhum district.

West Singhbhum is a predominantly tribal district with 67.31% ST population (2011 census). In 2018, NITI Aayog ranked West Singhbhum in a low position of 70 among 101 aspirational districts of India. West Singhbum’s composite score is a mere 33.44% and its educational score is an alarming 44.60%. Some areas of the district are rife with left wing extremist violence.
