School Management Committee

The Right to Education Act (2009) recognizes the role of community members in school management through the formation of the School Management Committees (SMCs). The SMC is empowered to monitor school functioning, ensure effective use of grants, oversee the implementation of RTE provisions, maintain accountability and transparency in school functioning, track student and teacher attendance, ensure mid-day meals, and raise awareness among the community. We work with the SMC to enable its active participation in the management and governance of government schools.

SMC Orientation

We orient elected SMC members on their roles and responsibilities, as well as the provisions of the RTE Act, to ensure effective school management. We also raise their awareness about child rights, child labor, and child marriage issues to increase their involvement in enhancing school access and attendance for all students. The SMC encourages collaboration between teachers and parents to enhance the educational environment and improve overall school outcomes.

Preparation of School Development Plan

We support SMC members in creating the School Development Plan (SDP) by facilitating regular meetings, raising awareness about gaps in school and education quality, and ensuring consultations with all stakeholders. The SMC identifies issues and challenges faced by the school and incorporates the solutions in the SDP and submits it to the gram panchayat for approval.

School monitoring

We facilitate regular SMC meetings where members discuss and take action on improving school infrastructure, tracking teacher and student attendance, managing mid-day meals, and ensuring effective use of grants for better education quality.

Trainings conducted by SMC

As we expand our education program to new areas, we organise planned visits of the new SMC members to schools and habitations of SMC members working with us for several years. The exposure visit gives a chance for the new SMC to interact with people who have been working on improving their school for several years. It builds hope and a vibrant environment to usher change.
