As the Covid-19 pandemic brought a halt to all major project activities, we felt the need to realign our objectives to mitigate the anticipated negative impact of the lockdown on children, communities, and schools. During FY20-21, we became the official Covid-19 relief partner of 416 gram panchayats in 20 blocks of Odisha and Jharkhand.

Supported gram panchayats to stop the spread of covid-19
Spread awareness on Covid-19 prevention protocols
Helped set up 601 quarantine centres for the incoming migrants
Introduced yoga, exercise, libraries, film screenings in the quarantine centres. Engaged quarantined residents in gardening, painting etc.

Supported gram panchayats in providing safety nets against food insecurity and economic distress
Helped self-help groups prepare and distribute 3,424,120 hygienic meals, using masks, distancing, and hand wash
Lead the distribution of dry ration to 92,178 people facing food insecurity
Identified work under MGNREGA, in consultation with the gram panchayats. Helped 10,983 MGNREGA aspirants get a job card

Mobilised community against child marriage
With the support of the community and gram panchayats, we were able to stop 300 (almost 50%) child marriages

Maintained child labour free status of project blocks which have achieved it, through regular tracking of children

Continued supporting 2597 children in preparation for secondary board exam

Created a novel model of hybrid learning suitable for children living in areas with low-to-none digital access
150,028 children from 5,589 villages in 20 blocks of Odisha and Jharkhand have so far benefitted from our Lockdown Learning program.

Aspire staff, their families, and project children conducted awareness drives to urge the community to vaccinate and dispel the myths around vaccination
203,188 individuals assisted in registering on the GoI’s cowin portal
75,360 individuals supported in getting their first dose and 47,494 adults in getting the second dose
