World Day Against Child Labour, observed on June 12th annually, sheds light on the pressing issue of child labour. Today, a significant number of children under the age of 18 are engaged in various jobs, either to support their families or driven by their own interests. In the Joda block, which encompasses Barbil and Joda municipalities, many students migrate to these urban areas in search of employment opportunities. Unfortunately, this trend has also led to the involvement of local children in such practices.
On the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour, we united to celebrate and take action against the pervasive issue of child labour. In Odisha, the community demonstrated their deep commitment by engaging in a door-to-door campaign. The primary objective was to ensure that every child in the area had the opportunity to attend school and receive an education. This campaign served as a reminder of the transformative power of education and its crucial role in breaking the cycle of child labour. The community proudly displayed stickers proclaiming “NO-CHILD LABOUR HERE” on their walls. These initiatives were implemented across all intervention blocks in Odisha, illustrating the unity and collective efforts of the community.
